Side Abdomen Flab

by Priya
(India)

How to reduce flab on the sides of the abdomen? And also how to reduce stomach flab?

Matthew's reply: Hi Priya, please take a look at previous posts regarding how to get rid of excess fat in the abs and belly region. In particular see the post titled "How can I lose side fat and belly fat?"

Basically, you need a combination of regular cardio exercise to burn excess fat overall, and some specific abs, belly and waist exercises to tone this area, and a suitable diet. There are specific exercises on this site.

Foods to avoid and which often contribute to excess fat are things like white rice, white bread, cakes, pastries, pizza, pasta, etc. Keep in mind that when we reach about 40 years of age we normally put on a few extra kilos due to the natural slowing down of our metabolism.

As you are Indian I understand that you probably eat white rice daily, so make sure you eat plenty of bulky, fibrous vegetables too as white rice can be quite stodgy. Eating plenty of vegetables helps to sweep rice (and similar foods like pasta) through the digestive tract.

Any questions or comments feel free to post them.

All the best,

Matthew
