Severe Back Pain from Muscle Spasms

by Dilip Aldar
(Satara India)

I am suffering from severe back pain. My back pain generally starts when i am sitting, otherwise while standing or sleeping no pains are observed. I have gone through different treatments but no relief.
X ray report says muscular spasm. Please suggest a solution. Thanks

Matthew's reply: Hi Dilip. Depending on where exactly your pain is, some of the exercises in the Back-Neck section may well help you. Take a look at them and choose 1 or 2 that you feel are most suitable and follow the instructions. All the back exercises are fairly simple to do and many people report they are very effective for back pain, especially muscular pain.

Warm up first with 10-15 minutes of walking, or exercise bike or similar, then do the back exercises slowly, gently and smoothly - never force an exercise! Also, you obviously need to limit the time you spend sitting. If you must sit for work then it's important you take regular breaks to stand up and move about. The back exercises on this site are perfect for doing in an office or at home. Please keep me informed of your progress and don't hesitate to ask me further questions.

All the best,

Matthew
