Hi I suffer every night from back pain. It occurs whilst I am relaxed and asleep. I sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs. I always wake up needing to turn over and that's when I have this excruciating pain, it takes my breath away and I cannot relax properly to breath as it is too sore until I get myself into a comfortable position.
I am 32 years of age and have a little girl who is 5 years old. I thought it was just the joys of having a child as I had an epidural during childbirth but I do not think this is linked as the pain seems to be in my upper back round my ribcage area. Some nights are worse that others. It clears away during daily life but I can still feel that I have pain there muscularly. Any ideas on what this can be? It doesn't matter what bed I sleep in its the same anywhere? Lynn
Matthew's reply: Hi Lynn, if you haven't had the problem checked by a doctor that would be my first step. You may well be right that it is muscular pain and if so then there are exercises in the Back-Neck section that may help you. Exercises that I'd probably try first include the Back Twist and Back Arch. Any questions about these back exercises or any others on the site just post them below.
