Generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks

I have had some relationship problems going on for quite some time. Now I have this generalized anxiety and intermittent panic attacks. I am anxious and have trembling of my whole body. I am doing some breathing exercises but not much relief. I am also on some prescribed medications. Will acupressure help or should I go for acupuncture? Anmi
Matthew's reply: Hi Anmi, acupressure is definitely effective for anxiety and panic attacks, either on its own or in conjunction with acupuncture, breathing exercises, etc. It's a subtle therapy and often people don't do it long enough to give it a chance to fully work. Note, though, that as long as the underlying cause of the problem (your relationship) exists, the relief you get may not be long lasting.
You need to resolve your relationship problems in order to permanently stop your anxiety and panic attacks. You should also (under the guidance of your doctor) get off anti-anxiety medications asap - they are a short term solution only and can be addictive.
There are some acupressure points in the Anxiety-Stress section of this site that can help with anxiety and panic attacks. Another good site is www.emofree.com for a modern approach to acupressure. All the best. Any further questions about acupressure for anxiety and panic attacks let me know.
