Effective Ab Workout

by Phil
(USA)

Hey I don't have a really big belly and my abs are on a scale of 1 to 10 probably about a 4 in strength. I play football and am looking to lose a little of my belly fat and gain some muscle in my core area. What would be a good exercise routine for this? I weigh about 180 lbs, am about 5'10, am 16 almost 17 years old and most of my weight comes from my upper body mass (arms and chest area).

Matthew's reply: Hi Phil, if you're playing football (and training for it too) then you're probably already getting enough cardio exercise, which is needed to burn off excess fat overall. There are many ways you could work your abs, for example with bodyweight exercises like pull ups and push ups and isometric contraction exercises. I don't have any specific routines containing these exercises on my site, so I suggest you take a look at mattfurey.com - he has a complete ab workout (combat abs) made up of exercises like those above. You could do this kind of workout on days when you're not playing football. All the best. Matthew
