Chronic Eye Problem - Blepharitis

Hi Matthew, Do you have any suggestions for chronic blepharitis? I developed it a few months ago and it is not improving in spite of hot compresses, antibiotic drops etc.
Matthew's reply: Hi, in Chinese medicine blepharitis (inflammation of the outer edges of the eyelids) is often diet-related. Overeating of hot and spicy, or fried and greasy foods generates heat in your digestive system, which in time can transfer to other areas - in your case your eyes, causing such problems as blepharitis. Alcohol and coffee also heat up your system and can contribute to eye inflammation.
There are other causes but faulty diet is the main one. Even if you believe your diet is not the cause you should still try Chinese herbal medicine. Antibiotics are clearly not the solution, so stop taking them. There are many Chinese medicine doctors in New York. I recommend you see one to get a Chinese medical diagnosis and treatment. In the Articles section of this site there is a Chinese Diet Report outlining the Chinese way of health through food.
If you have questions or comments about diet or Chinese medicine for blepharitis just post them below.
All the best,
Matthew
