3 Steps To Better Health
I'm often asked questions like: What's a good way to improve my general health? There's no single answer for everyone but there are at least 3 things EVERYONE should do.
These may be obvious to some people but in my experience many, many people do not do them.
The 3 steps to better health are:
1. Sleep. Make sure get enough sleep every night. A good sleep not only helps you recover from each day it also prepares you for the next day. In Traditional Chinese Medicine any excess blood and energy you don't use during the day is converted while you sleep into a powerful essence called jing, which is important for good overall health and vitality.
2. Exercise before breakfast. Anytime is better than none, but before breakfast you burn off more excess fat because you haven't eaten since the night before. Exercising before breakfast also sets you up for step 3 and for the day ahead.
3. Breakfast. Eat a healthy, hearty breakfast. According to Chinese Dietary Therapy breakfast should be your biggest meal of the day. What is a healthy breakfast though? It's not the typical Western breakfast of a sugary cereal with cold milk and more sugar; white bread toast with sugary jam, or coffee with milk or cream and more sugar.
Try a bowl of fresh fruit or warm porridge or, as I do and is typical in China, a bowl of congee and a cup of green tea. For more on the benefits of congee click the link to previous health tips (below).
In summary the 3 steps to better health are:
Do them every day, make them a habit, and your health will surely improve.
All the best and, as always, any questions just let me know.
P.S. Over the next few weeks two new programs will be available: Lower Back Exercises and Chinese Long Life Self-Massage Techniques.
